The IIA is excited to share some great news about the Internal Audit Practitioner™ (IAP™) certification. Many individuals are already eligible to claim this permanent designation. Please read closely to learn about these qualified individuals and the steps they should take to ensure this opportunity is not missed!
If you currently hold or ever held the IAP designation, great news! You are now eligible to hold the IAP as a permanent designation. To maintain your permanent designation, you will be required to report 20 continuing professional education (CPE) credits annually.
- Expired IAPs: You have been automatically reactivated, and your IAP designation is now permanent. Certification renewal requirements begin in 2026.
- Active IAPs: All currently active IAPs have now been granted permanent status. Certification renewal requirements begin in 2026.
If you are a Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) holder or if you ever passed Part 1 of the CIA exam, you are now eligible to claim the IAP. You are eligible whether you passed the CIA through the traditional three-part pathway or through the challenge exam.
- Certified Internal Auditors (CIAs): Please submit an IAP application in CCMS.
- Challenge Exam Candidates: 1) Submit an IAP application in CCMS and 2) Open a new case under the Help tab to complete the process.
- Part 1 Passers: Please submit an IAP application in CCMS.
